I’m planning to travel to Australia over Christmas and New Year and the cheapest airfare I can find is $2600. I realize it’s peak season for traveling but 2 years ago I was able to fly to the Philippines at Christmas for only $2000.

ummm look at what you just said 2 years ago I was able to fly to the Philippines at Christmas for only $2000. That was 2 years ago! Price do go up AND the cost of fuel is always on the rise.

Also… It is longer flight in distance and the cost of taxes to fly into Australia is probably higher as well.

No offense - but get real! How cheap do you want it to be? Nobody like it either but that is the reality of the matter. No matter how cheap it gets - if the price drops, once we are used to that price - human being human - we will complain that it is s expensive yet again.

Also… try looking for packaged deals - there are always good ones around. It’s the case of waiting for the right time and grab it quickly.
